Description:
What happens when you try to upgrade an old piece of Apple hardware? Okay, so it's not THAT old... but still, this whole process definitely took much longer than I had originally expected. "Part One" introduces you to my iMac and what I plan to do with it, as well as opening the case and installing the new hard drive. Continue onto "Part Two" and that's where the real fun begins. Both these videos are filled with lots of fun geek stuff, so you have been warned! |

CHjfbalko ::: Favorites I am sorry about the trouble with getting all of that hardware out of there, and you used some rudeness. 07-08-27 20:27:32 _____________________________________________________
Sames4000 ::: Favorites hey, can u send me an iso or dmg created image of iLife 06? i have a copy of it, its just its corrupt when i try to install anything but Garageband. plz? 07-08-25 10:26:19 _____________________________________________________
prestoleum ::: Favorites Hey, when you strip any screw, there's a special bit that you put into a power drill, and it takes the screw out no problem. That would help you out next time!!! 07-08-22 22:10:39 _____________________________________________________
jmaher2985 ::: Favorites also, powerman2442, you're wrong. PC100 isn't the only memory he can use. he can also use PC133. 133Mhz is the highest frequency that a PowerPC 750 can run at. However, if you were to put a PC100 stick and a PC133 stick in the same iMac, it would normally degrade the PC133 to run as a PC100. 07-08-16 14:52:08 _____________________________________________________
powerman2442 ::: Favorites According to the 5 websites I've read it has said PC100. 07-08-20 18:48:38 _____________________________________________________
jmaher2985 ::: Favorites i have two non-ECC 512mb PC133 sticks of memory in my G3 imac right now. i know, because i bought it. 07-08-20 18:52:47 _____________________________________________________
jmaher2985 ::: Favorites did you remember to check crucial for the memory of an iMac G3 500 (which is what i have)? 07-08-20 18:56:50 _____________________________________________________
powerman2442 ::: Favorites Did you think to ask that maybe I am a Windows junkie and have never owned a Mac in my life? 07-08-20 20:04:20 _____________________________________________________
jmaher2985 ::: Favorites why did you update your firmware onto your OLD hard drive when you just upgrade your storage by putting in the new (empty) one, and then install OS X on the new hard drive? doesn't that make updating your firmware pointless? 07-08-16 14:49:53 _____________________________________________________
blitz355 ::: Favorites Alright thanks man, my mac does have a firewire port 07-08-15 16:06:37 _____________________________________________________
freekuvnatur ::: Favorites that metal case u puled out inside is the radiation sheild 07-08-14 21:20:10 _____________________________________________________
freekuvnatur ::: Favorites PC 100, wrong type man 07-08-14 20:56:38 _____________________________________________________
powerman2442 ::: Favorites Yeah, he needs PC100, nothing else. :) 07-08-14 21:19:31 _____________________________________________________
Filosofen88 ::: Favorites Nice vid, but you could just go with the old IDE cable. The one that came with the harddrive is way to long to fit in there. I wonder how you'll manage to press in that cable along with the ram etc. 07-08-11 15:50:28 _____________________________________________________
DaffDaf95 ::: Favorites WOW!!!!!! 07-08-10 14:15:43 _____________________________________________________
blitz355 ::: Favorites okay i know this video is older, but i didn't want to post on one of your new videos that has no relevance. I have a mac just like that blue one you have, 256ram 350mhz i think, and so on, is it worth putting os x tiger on the machine, will it run smoothly or will it be painful to use it? Thank you for your time. 07-08-09 22:54:34 _____________________________________________________
thecreativeone ::: Favorites It won't be fast, but performance will be good. Also take note that Tiger requires a Mac with a FireWire port, which is why I had to install Panther on my iMac. 07-08-14 02:05:49 _____________________________________________________
duncanyoyo1 ::: Favorites Just increasing the RAM and hard drive space won't speed it up that much. 07-08-14 16:31:15 _____________________________________________________
powerman2442 ::: Favorites Yeah but he went from a slower RPM HDD to a faster one. I doubt a G3 has a 7200 RPM. And yes, RAM gives you the most bang for your buck then any other upgrade for a PC... period. 07-08-14 21:19:16 _____________________________________________________
skcool1555 ::: Favorites that metal thing is a radiation sheild 07-08-08 16:21:02 _____________________________________________________ |
