jazzinthedark ::: Favorites this is why the rabbit population had to be controlled because they were eating everything and ruining the countryside and causing other animals including other rabbits to suffer. the same thing will be true for horses 07-08-04 17:55:46 _____________________________________________________
stickybeak4eva ::: Favorites but horses have been living with our native animals for centuries and they have never caused animals to go hungry. Horses don't breed like rabbits, a mare will only have one foal every year... even once every two... rabbits can have hundreds even thousands a year as there gestation period is only 4 weeks. 07-08-06 07:11:08 _____________________________________________________
stickybeak4eva ::: Favorites The brumby numbers have only gotten out of control becoz the government stopped ppl in the area from going out and catching them for stockhorses. they created the problem themselves and they're going about fixing it in the WRONG way 07-08-06 07:13:08 _____________________________________________________
jazzinthedark ::: Favorites they may not breed like rabbits but they dont have to because of the amount they eat. an adult horse will graze for 14 hours a day (at least)and most baby rabbits dont survive to adulthood unlike horses who usually have a good survival rate. 14hours of grazing x thousands of horses= loss of vegetation and loss of habitat for themselves and other animals. i may not seem fair but sadly it is necesary 07-08-06 12:59:14 _____________________________________________________
stickybeak4eva ::: Favorites I just dnt think they should be shot... they can atleast herd them up and sell them as stock horses 07-08-09 04:11:37 _____________________________________________________
jazzinthedark ::: Favorites i love animals and dont like culling but sometimes it has to be done. if they can kill as many as 1300 then it sounds like the population might be out of control. austarlia isnt known for its lush herbage and foliage. if you let horses, cattle or deer roam around unchecked they will eat everything, nothing will grow back and all the horses, deer and anything else will end up starving to death. it is better to kill a certain number than have them all die out due to starvation. 07-08-04 17:55:21 _____________________________________________________
stickybeak4eva ::: Favorites while u are right in a way I don't think the horses deserve to be shot. I have been researching the fact and the brumbies were never complained about. also, the horses have been roaming free for hundreds of years and there have never been any problems other than what us people have been doing ourselves. horses don't cut down trees for paper... horses dont overuse water to the point of HIGH LEVEL water restrictions... they are just innocent horses who deserve a life of freedom and kindness. 07-08-06 07:07:57 _____________________________________________________
TheGermanHorseFan ::: Favorites good work i like the video!! i like that you want to save the brumbies, because i hate these people who shut them!! 07-07-27 08:24:13 _____________________________________________________

wardog1967 ::: Favorites Does anyone here have any idea WHY the RSPCA approves a cull of wild horses and any other feral animal? I do not hunt, I do not fish, but I do travel in the outback a LOT. Get out there and see the damage to the NATIVE flora and fauna introduced species have done and continue to do at an alarming rate. And some hypocrite posted something about our heritage? Get real. Look out there. I love horses and horse riding, but our environment cannot sustain them and other feral animals. 07-07-03 03:23:14 _____________________________________________________
missymactosh ::: Favorites u r a disgrace to all nature! how would u like to be culled the human race is distroying more nature than the brumbies! 07-07-28 02:48:41 _____________________________________________________

It's brumbys like this that our country was built upon 07-06-01 21:43:22 _____________________________________________________
lordofveggie1 ::: Favorites This clip has touched my heart...I love horses deeply, ever since I first saw one and rode one, I have loved them! This is so sad and terrible to see this slaughter go on to such beautiful and harmless animals...I have always wanted to grow up and own an horse ranch for horses of all kinds like the abused and wild horses, to keep the wild safe, but still wild and the abused loved and cared for. I will remember this when I (hopefully) get a ranch of my own, I will help this beautiful breed. 07-04-15 17:20:52 _____________________________________________________

G'day guys,
Submissions have just closed for a proposal by the Victorian Govt to roundup and slaughter the brumbies of the Barmah in Northern Victoria.
I know that area very well and believe me the thousands of wild goats, feral pigs, foxes and millions of rabbits do far more damage than the 150 resident brumbies. They have been a problem for many years while making a big deal about the brumbies the government actually has discouraged and reduced the means available for the reducing the numbers of the other feral residents. They are taking a high profile and easy option to put a bandaid over far bigger problems such as a lack of water and their pathetic land management practices. Oh and while we are speaking there is currently a bushfire raging in the Barmah (now early spring) which has just been made a National Park. Part of that includes the preventing the reduction of tinder dry grass and shrubbery. This was something that the brumbies and cattle were good at doing. They are far more gentle than a wild fire that decimates the local flora and fauna.
