biinstinct ::: Favorites 2007-12-03 02:21:25 Enlightenment is not always "peaceful". Sometimes it can be rather scary! The "no seperation" between all there is is not always a great thing...especially when the world is as sick as it is at the moment. Before it gets better is will get worse. __________________________________________________

TheModernMystic ::: Favorites 2007-11-05 12:43:43 Two things here: You/Universe. You are looking at this from `you` position and extrapolating to a `Universe` position. Think Big Man!! Universe position first. __________________________________________________
TetragrammatonMan ::: Favorites 2007-11-05 12:29:55 Ya i should script some of this so the pauses and qualifications i tend to make do not distract. __________________________________________________

MrFlimsy ::: Favorites 2007-11-04 22:10:12 Perhaps a little muddled. I may send you an e-mail if I have the time. Interesting videos (; __________________________________________________
MrFlimsy ::: Favorites 2007-11-04 21:29:42 In this sense, it seems to me to be always directed at appropriating or 'sublating' otherness. I think your second post, and the second sentence of your first post, raise questions about particular forms of culture which are disseminated by 'C.E.O.'s', like you say, or the ruling corporate class. This is perhaps using the word culture in a different way, similar to the popular usage which refers to 'high' or 'elite' culture, and originates the idea of being 'cultured'. __________________________________________________
MrFlimsy ::: Favorites 2007-11-04 21:29:10 When you say that culture can limit, I'd say it only limits in the sense that it makes intelligible, by installing conventions of relationship and distinction, what would otherwise be unintelligible, chaotic, or without boundary. It limits so far as it taxonomises. __________________________________________________
MrFlimsy ::: Favorites 2007-11-04 21:28:44 I am with you in your first comment when you equate 'culture' with language. The word's ridden with connotation and here you've put your finger on the meaning I'm keen on: culture as a collection of meaningful symbolic systems, practices or 'languages'. This is incredibly broad and covers so much that potentially, I guess, everything that can be re-presented between two or more people can be considered part of 'a culture'. __________________________________________________
TetragrammatonMan ::: Favorites 2007-11-04 20:47:47 Mythology / Culture has the paradoxical effect of limiting some and enlightening others so its not always pointing toward otherness. It can be seen to encourage self-realization and therefore be seen a subject. I suggest we stand between object and subject and admire the view:-) __________________________________________________
TetragrammatonMan ::: Favorites 2007-11-04 20:47:32 I think i understand what your saying. I see culture as virtually equal to language. Culture is a set of patterns, rythms and dialogue that allow tribal efficientcy by order of the elders, or ceo's as we call them today. __________________________________________________
MrFlimsy ::: Favorites 2007-11-04 18:29:40 I jumped on the idea that the experience of order is the representation of 'otherness' as similitudes (images/modes) of the self. If this is the case, we can describe all cultural practice as that of representing otherness as such: theories, art-objects... It's interesting to imagine that the universe is in the practice of constantly 'theorizing'... __________________________________________________ |
